Hydronic Heating Systems

underfloor heating and cooling

Progressive Energy Systems is an Accredited Underfloor Hydronic Heating/Cooling Provider specialising in design and installation of tailored underfloor heating solutions and can offer this experience to develop the best possible heating system to suit the requirements of your project.

Warmth & Comfort…

Underfloor heating is not a new concept; thousands of years ago Romans used fire trenches and underfloor ducts to heat the stone floors in their bathhouses. Today underfloor heating works by circulating warm water through a network of pipes laid in the floors, passively spreading heat through out the building’s environment.

Underfloor heating is available to suit different floor types including concrete slabs, suspended wooden floors and screed floors.

The predominant form of heat transfer in underfloor heating is RADIATION, heat is concentrated exactly where it is needed and not in the ceiling area so that you are not wasting money heating the airspace over your head.

The benefits of underfloor heating...

One of the main reasons for the increased demand for underfloor heating in recent years has been the energy savings when compared to traditional forms of heating other advantages include:

  • Same comfort level achieved at lower air temperature
15-30% potential saving in running (fuel) costs
  • Lower operating temperature required
Renewable energy heat sources can be used (solar, geothermal, heat pumps etc)
  • No draughts or dust movements
  • Air movements at minimum
Improved air quality and healthier indoor environments
  • Virtually maintenance free
No downtime or expensive maintenance costs
  • Areas can be zoned and controlled to different temperatures
  • Silent operation
  • Unsurpassed even spread thermal comfort
Increased flexibility and high comfort options
  • Totally out-of-sight heating system that does not restrict furniture placement
  Freedom in space and design
  • No ventilation shafts or covers
Very low security risk (eg public areas, correctional facilities)

Underfloor heating offers comfortable, clean, healthy heating with versatility, safety, economy and low maintenance.

Heat Sources

There are a number of possible heat sources that can be applied depending on factors such as location, budget and project requirements.

Depending on these factors you may choose to use a single heat source or a combination (hybrid) of more than one source. Options in heat sources are;

  • Solar
  • Gas Boilers (LPG and Natural Gas)
  • Electrical elements
  • Heat Pumps
  • Wood (Slow Combustion

Cool and Effective - an innovative alternative...

There are not many products that you can use for opposite results. Underfloor systems provide flexibility to not only heat but also to cool. Hydronic cooling is a low energy concept that can be used with passive natural air ventilation systems to provide comfortably cool surroundings.

Hydronic cooling systems can significantly contribute to reductions in total energy costs in that when used as a direct cooling source via an in-slab system, the need for and reliance on traditional, less efficient (and typically high energy consuming) air conditioners is reduced or eliminated.
